Course Infection diseases 2009 - Acinetobacter baumannii 16 January 2009
Contents The epidemic spread of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii among hospitalized critically ill patients is an increasing cause of concern. Once the microorganisms have become endemic in a hospital, they are very difficult to eradicate. A recent manifestation that has attracted public attention is its association with infections in severely injured soldiers. Treatment of A. baumannii infections is becoming increasingly difficult due to the emergence of resistance to carbapenems. During this one-day course a variety of aspects of this intriguing microorganism will be presented by international experts in the field.
