Soil-borne virus diseases in ornamental bulbous crops and their control in the Netherlands
In The Netherlands, viral soil-borne diseases in ornamental bulbous crops are caused by, or associated with, tobacco rattle virus (TRV), tobacco necrosis virus (TNV), Arabis mosaic virus (AMV), tobacco ringspot virus (TRSV) and probably also tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). The vectors of TRV, AMV and TNV are known to occur in Dutch soils. The vector of TRSV has not yet been found, although the virus is widespread in certain crops. The presumptive role of a soil-borne vector of TMV is still to be proved. The main control measures consist of the rogueing of diseased plants, the application of late planting of autumn bulbs, and the use of soil disinfection.
